Though many of us suffer from Palin Factor Fatigue, it is irrefutable that there is a nagging curiosity to have the question answered, ?How in the world did Sarah Palin become so popular and why do we still need to hear about her?? My book answers these questions in detail and urges us all to be vigilant. She is one of a small pool of ?rising stars in the republican party? as John McCain stated as recently as January 25, 2009 on Fox News Sunday.

As unbelievable as her meteoric rise was we cannot delude ourselves, turning our backs once again, into thinking that she and those like her are going away. This woman is joined by millions of loyalists whose perception is that she was persecuted in the media, stifled by McCain, and mocked by liberals - and now the theocratic conservatives are regrouping with a vengeance!

About

THE BLOG--HISTORY

"Blue Oasis" began in 2005 in its Blogger format (now an archive) and became possibly the first Alaska Blog on Progressive Politics. At the 2008 Democratic National Convention, Celtic Diva's Blue Oasis was honored to represent Alaska as the state blog.

Transition--Community Blog

In September 2008, Celtic Diva's Blue Oasis moved to a Soapblox Community Blog format. Readers can become full participants by registering on the blog to comment and write "diaries." Diary titles appear on the right sidebar for folks to read and provide comments. Blog editors may choose to move some of these diaries to the front page.

While this Community was formed specifically with Alaska in mind, all "friends of Alaska" are welcome as members!

**Note about registering** Scroll down the right side until you find the link to register. Then, just follow the instructions!

**Note about comments** To comment on a story, click on the heading and then look for the "comment bar" at the bottom (it's light grey, I can't seem to change it). I believe the font color NOW permits you to see the "post comment" text.

YOUR BLOGMISTRESS

My name is Linda Kellen Biegel and I am a former 15-year Federal employee. Thirteen of those years were spent working for the US Army Corps of Engineers. I am also semi-retired from the Alaska music scene (singer, sound tech, stage manager, logistics).

When the blog was chosen to represent Alaska in the DNCC State Blogger Pool at the Denver Convention, I attended with the help of Alaska Real blogmistress, Writing Raven and my daughter Morrigan. On August 29th, one day after Barack Obama's inspiring speech at Invesco Field , my life took another turn as it did for all Alaska bloggers when Gov. Sarah Palin was chosen to be John McCain's VP running mate. Since then, I've either assisted or have been interviewed by media from the UK, Italy, Australia and Germany as well as national media outlets such as Wall Street Journal, NY Times, ABC Good Morning America's Kate Snow, National Journal, Dallas Morning News, LA Times, and NPR.

Presently, I work as a freelance writer, PR, event coordinator, community organizer, wife to computer programmer Josh and mother to 11-year-old Morrigan. Our family especially enjoys our summers in Alaska where we get to subsistence set-net fish Sockeye salmon as well as halibut fish/whalewatch in the family's homemade aluminum boat, "The Neverdone" (when it's working). We reside in Anchorage, Alaska.

Origin of "Celtic Diva"

I've used "Celtic Diva" as a screen name since the early 1990's on Web TV.

"Celtic"

"Folks have asked about my Celtic heritage, especially in light of my name. What they don't realize is that I'm adopted. I was born Valerie Morehead of the Clan Muirhead. I was adopted at three-months-old by the Kellens. I always "knew" I was Celt even before really knew. I was drawn to all things Scottish, especially music. That's why my parents eventually told me at age 16."

"Diva"

"Linda is well-known in Alaska & beyond as the prominent progressive political blogger Celtic Diva of Celtic Diva?s Blue Oasis. But back in the day, the early 1990s, I knew her as Linda Kellen, a member of the local folk/rock band Sky is Blu, which amongst other things performed in at least a couple or so of the annual women?s show Celebration of Change, in which I also performed. And if you don?t already know, let me tell you: Linda is one fine damn singer."

I went on after the break-up of "Sky is Blu" to perform with various Alaska musicians and work with national folks like Bo Diddly, Coco Montoya, Debbie Davies, Taj Mahal, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Bad Company, Creedence Clearwater, Carny Wilson, etc...

OK, now THIS photoshop is disturbing...and funny as hell!!!!**UPDATE**

Tue Jun 30, 2009 at 11:39:26 AM AKDT

A reader was "inspired."

Has anyone noticed that this entire photoshop incident has backfired in Stapletongue's and the Palinista's face?

Just sayin'...

*****************************UPDATE***************************

I've been meaning to mention this, Steve Aufrecht over at "What Do I Know" did a good article on the whole brouhaha.  Even though our blogs have different styles, he does a beautiful job of highlighting the most important points of the issue...especially in analyzing Stapleton's response.

You'll find his blog post HERE.

By the way, a big "thumb's down" goes to the new Alaska Newsreader format. While it looks slick, it's impossible to figure out the comments.

Whoa. That's one scary pic.

meanwhile (0.00 / 2)

The Obama economy is circling the drain and the Obama
foreign policy is a train wreck.

You will begin noticing these things when you stop looking
at pictures for your daily news roundup and "read" about
what is going on around you.

It's obvious what you've been reading... (0.00 / 0)

Polls and intellectual ability (0.00 / 0)
Like we said, can't anybody read a poll?
June 30, 2009 12:29 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

Jamison just highlighted the dreadful WashPost effort, as the Beltway press corps continues to fictionalize the tale about Obama's falling poll numbers. (Fact: According to the latest from WashPost/ABC News, his approval rating stands at a very robust 65 percent.)

In my column this week, I focused attention on the ABC News team and how they did their best to ignore, play down and just plain misinform viewers and readers about their own polling data.

For instance, on his blog, This Week host George Stephanopoulos posted an item under the headline: "Obama's Poll Numbers Falling to Earth?" In his post, Stephanopoulos stressed that Obama was "slipping a bit," but never once mentioned that Obama's approval rating stood at 65 percent, down just 1 point from March.

Oops.

Oh. and I forgot to mention (0.00 / 2)
Obama's poll numbers are tanking.

It's OK, you can blame that on Governor Palin too.

Meg Stapleton is going to make a fine replacement for
Robert Gibbs in 2013.

Stapletounge Inept AND unethical...just like her boss (0.00 / 0)
Inept;

She created a political-action committee-Sarahpac-with the help of John Coale, a prominent Democratic trial lawyer.

But just months into its existence the pac's chief fund-raiser, Becki Donatelli, a veteran of Republican campaigns, suddenly quit.

One person familiar with the situation told me that Donatelli could not stand dealing with Palin's political spokeswoman in Alaska, Meghan Stapleton, who has drawn withering fire from Palin friends and critics alike for being an ineffective adviser.

Also with Coale's help, Palin formed the grandiosely named Alaska Fund Trust, to defray a reported half million dollars in legal expenses arising from a slew of formal ethics complaints against her in her home state-prompting yet another formal complaint, that the fund itself constitutes an ethical breach.

Onetime supporters have become harsh critics. Walter Hickel, 89, a former two-term governor and interior secretary, and the grand old man of Alaska politics, who was co-chair of Palin's winning gubernatorial campaign, in 2006, now washes his hands of her. He told me simply, "I don't give a damn what she does."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"She doesn't at all have anyone who's willing to give it to her straight," one person who occasionally advises Palin told me. Todd may be the one exception. "I saw nobody else like that, nobody who would sit her down and say, 'Hey, wait a minute.'" He added, of the poor communications operation run by Stapleton, "I don't know what part Sarah Palin plays in the lack of communications, but I don't think she's aware of how big a problem it is."
Unethical;
Palin communicated with legislators and her staff mainly by BlackBerry, sometimes using a personal e-mail account to avoid having to disclose documents under the state public-records laws. (The one time Meg Stapleton, who handles Palin's personal and political public relations, ever answered multiple e-mails was when I wrote her and Palin's gubernatorial office at the same time, and she replied: "Thank you for emailing. I will email you separately so as to remove us from the state account.")
Little Shop of Horrors (0.00 / 0)
My favorite Palin lie, repeated several times, was when she was asked for a response to the findings of the bipartisan, independent investigation into Troopergate.  Her response?  She said that she was happy to be found not guilty of violating any ethics laws.  Huh?  The report clearly found her guilty of unethical behavior.  My favorite response to her "happiness" was from the ADN reporter who then asked her if she had read the report.  Alas, he had already asked his one allotted question.  Control, control, spin, spin, spin.  Keep on spinning, Sarah.  You're almost finished.
FAUX News,in the background, too, (0.00 / 0)
This is disturbing in so many ways, but you are right about "Funny as he*l" part.
Today seems to be a day where many stories are converging.  Quite a welcome home for SP, I might say.
All she needs now is Joe Jackson (Michael's dad) showing up on her front lawn and talking to a news crew about his plans for the Palin legacy.
We may be coming to the end of a long and winding road.  Well, I can hope.... ;)
Uh yeah... it's another Palin screwup (0.00 / 0)
Not that she will ever admit it.
But what her little tantrum spawned was THOUSANDS of Palin photoshop jobs, that is, rather than sympathy or agreement with her position.
No one agreed with her because she appeared to once again be attacking parody and illustrating her thin, vindictive, bellicose skin.
Equally absurd was her elevating her pictures to religious status, calling the photo alterations "desecration."  Huh?  Is she saying that photoshopping images is a mortal sin or that it's a crime under AK law?
And like she did with Letterman/Willow, but for Palin mouthing off, no one would have known that the edited pic was previously Trigg.  I guess Palin kind of knew that such connecting of the dots was strained (and illogical), again, so that is why she came up with the desecration argument.
Sheesh how bonehead that sounds, to advocate that photoshopping HER family pics is desecration.  What a self-centered moron.
Anyway, what goes around comes around.  Because of her stupidity she became the subject of a photoshop contest, so to speak.  Type in Google "Palin Photoshop" and you will see what I mean.
Here, I'll post some that I have seen on the net.  I have about 100, these are just a few quickies.  And they are the tame ones.
These are on my server:
OMG, the first one is it.  There's the missing pregnancy picture.  LMAO, she obviously had a bit too much of whatever it is that puts hair on your chest.  God, the first one is the funniest one I have ever seen.
Here's proof of my point (0.00 / 0)
You know Palin is messing up when 8 months after she lost the election that people in Formosa/Taiwan are talking about her, and not in a flattering or important way:
http://tinyurl.com/m5d2jh
She can say what she wants about how people adore her, but this kind of publicity/attention does not a good politician make.
She is mocked and ridiculed around the world, literally.
Personnel Board Report Expenses Fighting Ethics Charges. (0.00 / 0)
CELTIC DIVA - have you seen this
http://dop.state.ak.us/iscsi/f...
2/3rds of costs were spent on Troopergate.
Note that the total costs so far are less than $300,000 not the $600,000 claimed by Palin and the Alaska Trust Fund!!!!!
Palin's Photo Hypocrisy (0.00 / 0)
You know how Palin is all God, country, and good Americans.  Well what the heck is she doing in Runners World posing in running shorts with the American flag tossed all bunched up on a chair, with Palin leaning on the flag with her elbow.
I was in the military and one would suffer a captain's mast or be put on report for flag desecration.  Moreover, most good Americans (as Palin would say) know that you respect the flag.  You don't toss it on a chair to use as a prop and then lean on it with a body part.  She might as well be standing on it.
While some of you may think this is trivial, if that was one of Palin's enemies doing what she is doing, she would be screaming bloody murder and demanding a government inquiry.  And remember her calling the photoshopping of her pic "desecration."
Bonus Criticism - what woman wears panty hose with running shorts.  Sheesh... she is so stuck on herself.  She looks ridiculous.
http://www.bullpooper.com/pali...
I agree.. (0.00 / 0)
I have been trying all day to get someone to pay attention to this.
This is actually against the law. I don't know what it is, but there is an actual statute for it. ShowMe Progress has a diary up about it.
http://blog.showmeprogress.com...
However, I think it is like so many other things.. IOKIYAR, remember the flap over the hand over the heart last year, no flag pin, all the he isn't patriotic enough and everything.
Just the same as they are trying to pull with her video wishing everyone Happy 4th, and all the aircraft carriers and air planes, flight suits and such, and slamming Pres. Obama. He isn't fit to serve but she is.
